Five {Hungry Little} Caterpillars

I'm not one known to be fond of bugs. In fact, I've been known {more than once} to close off a room in order to trap a bug {usually a wasp or bee} so that someone else {ahem, Ben} can dispose of it. Plastic cups are my friend and our Orkin Man's number is on speed dial programmed into my cell phone. However, what's the one type of bug that I willingly allowed in my classroom {every year that I taught!} and now, finally, into my house?

Caterpillars.

Today we got five hungry little caterpillars in the mail.

Noah was completely fascinated and mesmerized. And can now tell you that the caterpillars will turn into a "chris-a-list" and then into a "budderfly". Ellie, on the other hand, was completely unfazed and attempted to drink from the cup.

Classroom Library {Being Put to Good Use}

After we moved into this house, I sorted through my classroom library and we Ben put a good majority of it in the attic until Noah could use/read them. I have a ton of books. Last night, as we were sorting through things in the attic to sell in the garage sale this weekend, I Ben brought down one {of two boxes} of the lowest level readers for Noah. He found the box this morning in the kitchen and wouldn't wait for me to move it into the living room after breakfast to start reading them.

I sure do love my little book worm.

Organizing

Happy Veteran's Day!

We've been doing a little organizing around here, especially now that we have the space to be truly organized. Part of today's big chore, since Ben was off thanks to Veteran's Day, was to start working on getting the garage organized. Which actually means, getting all my school stuff organized! And in a mere four years of teaching, I have acquired quite a bit - particularly, in the way of books. I've no clue how big my classroom library is, but now, looking at the boxes in the kitchen, I'd estimate in the thousand range. In classroom sets alone {24 of the same book}, I have almost 300 books... every time I sent out Scholastic book orders {oh, how I miss those!!}, I'd order a book or two and my bonus points always went to more books for the classroom or for my students as gifts. What can I say? I'm a teacher. A Reading Specialist. A children's literature FANATIC. Here's the portion of the library that has been organized:

We've got to get a couple more tubs to finish sorting the rest of the books. While I was sorting, I pulled out some of my favorites and all of my signed copies too, so that I can keep them all together. The awesome part is, now that they are easy to grab, I can have Ben pull them out as soon as Noah is ready for the next level up! :)
