Day Two: Big Boy Toddler Bed

Toddler Bed, Day Two {or should I say, Night Two?}: SUCCESS!!

Since Ben wasn't feeling too well last night {darn those summer colds}, bedtime was solely on me. And, luckily, I only had to go into the nursery one time to put him back in bed... but it did take him over an hour to fall asleep. So long, in fact, that I had to restart his sleepy-time CD a second time. Once he was asleep, he slept great - like a baby! I did not, however, sleep well and every single noise that I heard over the monitor woke me up {that, and the fact that I left my much-needed body pillow in the nursery, just in case he rolled out}. When I heard him actually wake up for the day, I went into the nursery and found him like this.

Next step? Making sure he stays in bed until Mommy or Daddy comes to get him.

Don't Forget!!

If you are in the OKC/Moore area tomorrow, stop by the Moore Public Library for Jessica's book signing!

{I REALLY, REALLY wish we could be there tomorrow Jessie! We're so proud of you!!}

Day One: Big Boy Toddler Bed

Toddler Bed, Day One: Fail.

At least he finally took a nap in the pack and play.

We tried, slightly in vain, last night to get him to sleep in the converted crib. He cried the first time he fell {or did he roll?} out. Then, I tried to get him to lay down by staying in there with him. Not a bad idea until I tried to sneak out as he started dozing off. So I laid back down next to the crib and it was then that he realized he could safely get out {"Feet first"}. He wanted to play. In an effort to maintain the sanity and sleep of everyone involved, he promptly went into the pack and play, which for the time being, he cannot climb out of. He fell asleep within 10 minutes.

Naptime this afternoon, however, was a totally different story: He was excited to go lay down on his big boy bed and laid down easily. I shut the door and left him alone in his room and for a few minutes, he stayed in bed. Once I heard him up playing, I would go in there and lay him back down saying, "It's naptime Noah". Towards the end of our 45 minute ordeal, when I would open the door to the nursery to put him back in bed, he would start running for the bed. He knew he was suppose to be in bed!! But, as you can see in the picture above, naptime ended up being in the pack and play too.

Hopefully tonight will be a very different story.

The Wizards of Pop

This evening, April, Noah, and I went to the NCCIL for the opening of The Wizards of Pop: Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart. These two guys are AMAZING! We actually had already owned one of Sabuda's books {The Chronicles of Narnia}, so we took it to have it signed and couldn't resist getting the Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs pop-up book as well. Unfortunately though, because it was during/past Noah's bedtime {and because of the dang Russians Ben wasn't home} I spent the majority of their gallery talk chasing him around the back and trying to keep him quiet so not to disturb the other guests. Luckily, April was able to fill me in on most of what I missed - the pop-up book creation process is very involved!

One of the large remake displays of a page from the Alice in Wonderland pop-up book.

Noah's favorite exhibit was the remake of one of the shark pages - he kept saying, "Wow!"

Crib Drama

This afternoon, Monkey Boy {aka Noah}, decided that he would see if he could give Mommy a heart-attack before she turned 29. As I was walking through the nursery door to get him out of the crib after his afternoon nap, he was already trying to get out: he had one leg already over and the second one was quickly following. I barely caught him as he fell over the side. Barely as in he still landed pretty solidly on his head but at least the momentum slowed. {I wonder how crazed I must have looked with my nearly 22 week pregnant belly sprinting as fast as possible across the room.} He cried and I cried... for a good 30-45 minutes {okay, so most of that time was just me}. He was a little clingy the rest of the afternoon, but was physically fine. But even as I'm typing this, I'm still slightly shaking - I was totally freaked out.

So, when Daddy-Ben got home, we started the process of converting his crib to a toddler bed. I had contemplated going ahead and starting the switch to his big boy bed now, but since we don't have his toy box {it's still in OKC - it looks so good Daddy-Man! Thank you!} or a bed rail for it yet, we decided the best option would be to convert the crib and get him use to sleeping in a smaller "big boy bed" first.

Noah wanted to help SO badly. And, even though Ben got called back into work about three minutes after I snapped these two pictures, I was able to finish up converting the crib {including changing around some of the hardware on the frame!}. It actually made me feel pretty confident that at least I'll be able to handle a little crib drama if it happens while Ben is deployed.

Here's to hoping the Monkey Boy actually sleeps in the crib/toddler bed tonight!

My New Favorite

This video is my new favorite. When Ben got home tonight, Noah decided that it was hysterical when he would blow raspberries on Daddy's face. Ben and I thought it was pretty hysterical too!

The one video I wish I could have taken though, was when I told Noah to go "Give Daddy night-night kisses" and he ran into the living room, gave Ben two kisses and then blew some more raspberries onto his cheek.

I love my two silly guys.

Good Haircut {Gone Bad}

{Carmela, I'm only posting these pictures because you asked... even though I'm totally embarrassed!}

Noah has been in desperate need of a haircut the last week or so. His hair just grows so fast. I think I've already given him four {five?} haircuts. I had truthfully wanted to give him one before Ben's parents arrived so that he wouldn't be all shaggy in the {millions of} photos that I knew we would all be taking. But time got away from me and he didn't get one before they arrived. So, today, after lunch, I pulled out the Bumbo, put an episode of Sesame Street on the TV, and got to work cutting his hair. This time, however, Mommy didn't do such a great job. Or rather, Noah wouldn't hold still at just the right times.

So he ended up with lopsided sideburns.

And the back is a little uneven too.

At least from a distance it doesn't look too bad... even though Daddy keeps asking Noah where the weed-eater went that cut his hair.

Saying Good-Bye

The boys wanted to get in some last minute play time before it was time to head back to Colorado.

Lazy Sunday

When the three of us went to San Antonio, we stopped at an outlet mall in San Marcos and I spent some of our vacation money at the Carter's outlet. Most of it was spent on Noah, but an item was picked up for Baby #2 and for Sylas also. I couldn't help but pick out matching PJs for the boys! I was a little worried that Sylas' set wouldn't fit him, but all that worry was in vain - they fit!

But getting the boys to pose for a picture together before breakfast? Nearly impossible.

Noah was ready to eat.

And he was mad when we put him back up on the couch.

But like a true boy, give him a snake and he'll gladly pose {or rather, show you the snake} for a picture.

Noah and Sylas snuggled a little with Grandma while Popa and Daddy played Wii.

And of course, Popa had to get in on the fun of pushing Noah around in his dump truck.

Lazy Sunday = Good Memories!

Zoo Day

This morning we loaded up in the Sequoia and headed over to the Abilene Zoo. We love going to the zoo, but this trip was made even more special by the fact that we were taking along Sylas as well!

The boys were fascinated by the bear and Sylas did an awesome job feeding him too!

Noah had the most fun though, by making Daddy chase after him.

By far though, the highlight of this trip, was Sylas feeding the giraffe. The child had no fear and was thrilled beyond measure each time he touched the giraffe's tongue. {Oh yes! He touched it more than once!!}

Noah didn't get in on the feeding fun, but he got close enough to watch carefully.

I just love this shot that Carol got - and the looks on the random ladies faces standing next to Sylas crack me up!

This photo, however, was favorite - Mr. Rhino is totally smiling while sitting in the mud pit.

Strike that. This one is my favorite.

A Fun and Full First Day

{I have to preface this post by saying that today I did something I swore I'd never do.... my family will likely know what that is the second they see the following pictures. And, in my own defense, I was about to take him to Chuck E. Cheese and let him crawl and play all over the toys there. Okay, I said my peace.}
Ben's Mom, Dad, and nephew Sylas arrived safely at our house last night and we were so excited to welcome them here! I didn't take a single picture last night even though it was Chris' first time to ever see Noah in person, but between myself and Carol today, I think we got the entire day covered. The guys left early this morning to go play some golf on base, so after we got the kids ready, Carol, the little boys, and I all went up to the mall to kill some time before meeting the big boys at Chuck E. Cheese for lunch.

Noah and Sylas had a blast playing on the indoor playground at the mall.
And even though Mommy was close by,

Noah needed little help crawling up the slide.

Afterwards, we walked over to Chuck E. Cheese...

...two pizzas and 140 tokens later, all of us were tired! Carol and I sent all the boys home and we soaked and pampered our toes {Happy Mother's Day Carol!}.

We got home to find the guys {minus Noah who was napping} working hard on the sprinkler system.

And, when Noah finally woke up, Grandma Haze got to spend some quality time playing with her grandsons.

After dinner, the little boys were pretty tired, but were very excited to be bath-time buddies!

We had a very fun and very full first day with our family!

Pink!

It's no secret that I have type 1 diabetes. And it's no secret either that I love my insulin pump.

I've been pumping since March {?} 2000 and with the exception of a few times in those nine years {like our wedding and my first trip to Hawaii} I haven't looked back. MDI therapy {multiple daily injection therapy} just doesn't work well for me. Despite the fact that I've had type 1 diabetes for close to 14 years {wow... that makes me feel old: I've almost had it for as many years as I was old when I was diagnosed}, I still cringe at the thought of needles. {Sidebar: Which has always made me wonder how drug addicts do it!} Ever since my first Minimed pump {the 508, for those of you who know about them} arrived at my parent's house, I have wanted a pink pump. I mean, if you have to have something attached to you at all times, why not have it be a color or design that you just love? My first pump was green: the only colors available at the time were clear, smoke, blue and green. And while the clear or the smoke would have accessorized my outfits a little better, the green pump was, by far, the most exciting one to me. Imagine my excitement when pumps #2 and #3 arrived and were purple! I can remember very specifically Dr. Peters asking me one day why I chose a purple pump. My answer?

"Because they don't have a pink one yet."

Friends, I now, after over 9 years of pumping, have a pink insulin pump! It's actually the exact same pump that I have right now {722, for those who are wondering}. But since my warranty was up on my old purple 722, and I'm married to a man who has awesome health insurance {Mom, you prayed that I would marry someone who could provide excellent health insurance!}, getting a new pink pump was as simple as making a phone call to Minimed. And, unlike that first 508, not even a cent out of pocket. PTL! To be sure, I feel not only very lucky to be able to use and wear an insulin pump, but I'm so happy that it's finally pink!

And, just because we can all use some pictures of the fun little guy that we got to have because of such amazing technology and outstanding medical care:

A Big Boy Bed

Since we're expecting Ben's Mom, Dad and Sylas for a visit tomorrow night {and of course since we're having another baby in September}, we decided that we would go ahead and get Noah's big boy bed set up. We "bought" a box spring off of our friends and now Noah's big boy bed is complete!
I still have to make some pillows, find a bedskirt that I like and get a bed rail {before Noah can sleep in it}, but the basics of the bed is there and set up.

Noah, on the other hand, is not too excited about the new bed taking up space in the "playroom" and won't even try to get up onto the bed by himself.

Soccer!

Ben has been playing intramural soccer for the last few weeks {month?} with a team on base. He had played when he was in high school and, if I do say so myself, he's really pretty good. Tonight was the first time though, that Noah and I were able to go to a game and luckily, the weather was perfect! The only bummer was that I didn't think to bring the telephoto lens.
Run, Ben!
{He's the one on the farthest right.}
Half-time break.

Even though his team lost {2-1}, I got to go home with two winners.

Lucky me!

A Big Brother and a Little.....

..... sister!

{I had bought these shirts, along with one that said "Little Brother", while we were in San Antonio last week... and I came close to not even bothering buying the "Little Sister" one because I was so convinced that the baby was a boy! It was just the first, of many, pink purchases!}

We had our first appointment with the Perinatologist, Dr. Maberry, this morning and one of the first things he told us once he started the ultrasound was that Baby #2 is a GIRL! We were slightly shocked and pleasantly surprised! Don't get me wrong, we would have been very happy either way {the practical side of me really wanted another boy first}, but we're pretty excited to be welcoming a little extra pink into our house! Not to mention, I'm glad to restore the "balance".

Dr. Maberry also said that she {it's SO weird to say "she" now instead of "the baby"} is measuring right on target, 20 weeks 1 day, so she's not too big and not too small. {Just for reference, at this point with Noah we were measuring about 10-12 days ahead.}

Girl "parts"

And, after lunch, Noah and I stopped by Target to pick up a couple of things.... and we couldn't resist getting a couple more pink things.

Oh, and because I know so many of you will ask, we haven't decided 100% on her name yet... we tossed around a couple that we really like, but fear not - I'll be sure to post the name once we make the final decision! :)
